Yes the COMPIZ_CONFIG_PROFILE environment variable is still used, but if
unset or the empty string compiz first checks GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID,
which in quantal is currently set to 'this-is-deprecated'. If it is set,

Was there no apport reaction on failing installation -> automatically

I have chosen "show position of pointer when control key is pressed"
option from Mouse and Touchpad settings. The said functionality is
working fine. Nice effect is shown under the mouse cursor if control key
is pressed (which my 2.5 yr old son enjoyed a lot).

worked for Kingston 2Gg 50x Elite Pro CF card.
