For the reasons given in my previous comment, I believe this is a bug
not in the messaging menu, but primarily in the Launcher. So I'm moving
it to Unity.
Of the six suggestions I proposed, #2 and #4 have been implemented so
far. That might have been enough to fix the problem by itself.

Well, it's not a patch. It's a workaround for those who have btrfs
installed. The rest non-btrfs based systems still want those 4 lines.
Please note that cjwatson is maintainer of grub2 and he proposed this as
a dirty workaround not a solution that we can apply and upload into the
archive.

On continuous play albums there is a noticable discontinuity between tracks.
I assume that this is a fault of the player as it did not happen with either
windows media player or iTunes in windows 7.

The kernel command line is as installed by the installed for server.
I did notice that:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
was set - uncommenting this did make things a little more verbose and I
did get a login prompt.

This one is about VLC 2.0.3 on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal.
VLC opens fine and without any errors, but when clicking on prefrences from
Tools menu, desktop and VLC both freeze.
Killing the VLC process will return the deskop to its normal state.

Serge, regarding fixing bug #1040033, indeed. :) However I'm quite sure
that LTS users will not be able to test/use 12.10 if this bug isn't
fixed in SRU for qemu-kvm or Xorg in 12.10 is fixed.

This is particularly true, and IMO critical, if a partition is
highlighted and someone clicks on "-". At that point the highlighted
partition is just deleted with no further warning!
This change could easily lead us back to a lost data/OS situation like
we faced in Maverick :^(
