video streams perferctly, clear picture, audio in sync.

"nvidia-current_304.37-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal1_amd64" from that link
you provided and my session still crashes when using either Thunderbird,
Firefox or attempting to use Unity...

Had a second occurrence almost immediately but with a different instance
of Eclipse
1) Closed Eclipse instance reported above
2) Opened 2nd instance of Eclipse
3) JVM crashed twice
4) Eclipse started successfully at the third attempt

Testing in Ubuntu 12.10 (Daily), the problem seems to be gone. I can not
reproduce it running native Unity with 3d.

In current version of sound settings dialog (gnome-control-center
3.4.2-0ubuntu0.4) there is no way at all to set the sound card profile
(see screenshot). Maybe it is a PEBKAC, but I really cannot guess how to
set the 'Analogue stereo output' profile, so to completely disable the
internal sound car
The workaround in the first comment (editing the theme XML) works great.
Is there any chance of seeing this in Quantal, or is Metacity considered
dead in favor of Compiz as far as Canonical is concerned?

what are you trying to fix? What is it that used to work and now
doesn't? The screen is correctly of purple colour for me when I boot.

After updating today (2012-08-21) my 64bit alternate Quantal VM on
KVM/cirrus will for an instance show something that looks like the
desktop and then crash back to lightdm. Likely this is a result of
deprecating unity2d.
