I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Nvidia Drivers 295.40, and still having
crash problems.
In another installation that I've made some days before, I used the
302.07 and had problems too...
I really dont know what to do, I had this problem in Fedora 17 with
Nvidia Driver too.
This is not good for a LTS

I did this test with the mainline kernel 3.5-rc7-quantal; short answer -
no improvement. Details follow.
When I booted, I had no GUI configured, and could not select anything in the
menus in order to run a simplified GUI.

Kernel Panic when re-e
This was already assigned /away/ from acpi-support as explained in
comment #5. acpi-support doesn't handle this. Reassigning to upower,
which I think is the only desktop component that deals with brightness
keys; if it's not a upower problem then I guess it's a kernel problem.
