Looks like the bootstrap part of the install failed.
As you can see from the error messages in #2 it looks like mysql was
unable to create files in /tmp - this was blocked by apparmor.
Is your /tmp folder a standard directory? Loo
I did a clean install in a VM last night and didn't reproduce. My
colleague misinterpreted his symptoms, and I believe his issue is only
related to #1003842. I'll have one more run at reproducing it in the
next few days, otherwise I'm baffled...

Anyhow, a workaround for libreoffice that work for me back then ans
still works is to change the link in /usr/bin/libreoffice to point to

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
It looks to me like the problem was in fact fixed when you ran "dpkg
--configure -a" after rebooting. Can you please confirm if this is or
isn't the case?

I added a branch link that adds a APT::FTPArchive::ContentsOnly option
that will skip the Packages/Source file generation. I did some light
testing and it seems to be working as expected. Note that there are some
timestamp checks in the code, so it will expect that Package/Sources is
fresher than C
Did the light testing with lp:~mvo/+junk/apt-ftparchive-testsuit.

After upgrades reported below, both thunderbird and firefox present some
problems involving dropdown menu but only when they are run by the
launcher in desktop sidebar. If I run them by terminal or if I create a
new icon-launcher for both programs they don't show any problem;
