Hi,
Thank you all for your reply's. I didn't have time to test the upstream
kernel, but I did try what Ben suggested: update the bios. I don't know
how I haven't noticed this before when searching for a solution to the
fan-issue. I updated the bios to the 1.43 version and as a positive
surprise it

Setting the executive bit for files on devices needs that the exec flag is set
by mounting the device. Otherwise using chmod command dos'nt work and can not
set the execution right to the file.
In ubuntu the exec flag is NOT set by default and has to be set manually.
This means:

It also works with gnome-ppp (front-end to wvdial) and pppd. Pppd requires
configuration. Afater that this 3G-modem (ZTE MF190J.) works perfectly well.
But still, Ubuntu's network manager (or modem manager) cannot make connection.

The Do Nothing option does seem to be supported if you don't use the
gui for configuration. To set it from the command line use
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power critical-battery-
action 'nothing'
You can also say 'suspend' instead of 'nothing' to meet the original
