initial assumptions were incomplete, and that the problem arised from
the application using the PC/SC interface, not pcscd. I'll therefore

The laptop which had this device broke a while ago, so I cannot test

I have to give the additional information that a forces quit of the
debian sid guest and a normal start after performs a normal boot of the
guest.
So, it is only a problem with saved state guests and/or qemu-kvm updates
of the host between saving and resuming a guest.

when I start with lower brightness (on battery for example) the brightness up
(f2) control works fine. turning brightness down however (f1) appears to work
while holding it down, but then 'resets' to full brightness when the key is
