I observe the very same behaviour on 12.04: The processes cleanup,
rewrite and smtpd crash with signal 6 if they are within a chroot. (In
the default configuration, chroots are used for these processes and it
works here e.g. on Ubuntu 10.04).

Here's a very simple patch I hacked together for my own use, in case

I think that since Unity and GNOME3 don't use metacity as the window
manager, this patch should only affect 2D desktops. (I can't test this
theory at the moment, though, as Unity "3D" appears to be bro

I agree, if the brightness keys are hardwired, then it sounds better to
just let the notification popups not work than doing brightness changes
