Same situation here on a fresh install on up-to-date precise.
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386 is selected to be installed by default
(for me, gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg:i386 is not selected by default).
Unselecting that and selecting the normal (non-:i386) ffmpeg manually
works.

I tested the 1024x768 resolution with all the possible refresh rates
that gnome-display-properties permits for this resolution. It makes no
difference which of the refresh rates from 52 to 56 Hz I choose, the
output always ends up being 1280x800 at 59Hz.

of course we don't want to push something that causes standard behaviours to
break. However in my and my team's testing, Alt+Tab works perfectly fine. HUD
only appears for a single rapid tap of the Alt key, Alt+anything else does not
show HUD.
We're unable to reproduce this behaviour, and a
0.3.8 was released over the weekend, I am filing a FFe for that release.

Specific steps are:
1) log into a default ubuntu installation
2) install "kubuntu-desktop" with all depencies
3) after you restart empathy it uses the QT UI from the package
"kde-telepathy-text-ui" that was installed as depency
4) when you uninstall "kde-telepathy-
