my upgrade when,t fine update-manager -d .

i just hit reboot switch and all was good .
still had root login .
i install from synaptic package manager as well lubuntu edbuntu kde installed

Ce n'est pas un bug dans Ubuntu, mais dans la version de GeneWeb qui est
installée par Synaptics. J'ai trouvé une explication et je l'ai posté
sur un autre forum (Voir ci-dessous). Il semblerait que les versions
plus récentes de GeneWeb n'ont plus ce problème.

Sorry at time of posting [#31] I had not yet tried kernel in post [#27].
Now tried it and cannot say if it fixes it or not - simply because it
won't boot anymore with that kernel installed (last thing that appears
on screen are some apparmor messages, but they don't look like errors)

The problem got fixed in a Unity upgrade, so I guess it was a Unity
problem.

This is not fixed.
I upgrade to Precise, but:
- alsa-hda-dkms is not present for precise
- I uninstalled alsa-hda-dkms and phone doesn't work no more
