I can confirm the same problem with a 3GS running iOS 5.
Device mounts properly and displays in Nautilus and Rhythmbox. Transferring
files to device does not appear to actually update the device database. This is
apparently an upstream problem; libimobiledevice.org suggests that this is a

version 3 just coming up! maybe directly update to this version and leave out
2.x?

Fix uninitialized read in paintBackground

I'm on oneiric. I enabled oneiric proposed but I can't get the problem
fixed.
I typed "sudo apt-get update", "sudo apt-get upgrade" and "sudo apt-get
dist-upgrade", but my gnome-shell is still broken. I also saw that it's
the wrong version:

The system boots normally, the first login is successful and the user
logs out. Then in both cases:
1. Another login is performed but with a different user.
2. The same user logs in again and as soon as the desktop is loaded (before the
login process completes fully) the use
