I have just purchased this laptop, and have the same problems as
described, I have tried installing the 3.2rc7, the touchpad panel then
appears in the mouse settings, but the trackpad doesn't respond
properly. It is very "heavy" and often only moves when doing a click and
drag.

I'm trying to build an ISO image of Ubuntu Precise using this sequence of
commands run in a Precise chroot from a Maverick host:
$ sudo apt-get install live-build livecd-rootfs
$ mkdir -p auto
$ ln -sf /usr/share/livecd-rootfs/live-build/auto/* auto/
$ export PROJECT=ubuntu S

Samsung NP700Z5A elante
I tried your suggestion on #492, every steps are ok. Unfortunately,
multitouch and scroll don't work on my touchpad, Fn+F3 to disable
touchpad doesn't work as well. I'm using Laptop DELL N5110 15R and
Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit.
I also removed all power sources after install your alps-mouse package.
