My netbook (Sony Vaio VPCW 115xg) has an intel 945GME video card
controller.
The built-in LVDS1 is 1366x768. The add-on VGA1 is 1920x1080. xrandr
reports the maximum resolution of screen0 as 409x4096. I'm pretty sure
that any horizontal resolution above 2048 causes screen

You are right, this is exactly the problem.

But I still think that preventing evince to execute local commands from a local
installation of texlive is still a bug (an important one, give
Tentiatively I would say no (makes not sense). The story there is that
for 2.6.35 the code was at a point where save/restore seems to work.
Upstream changed after that to use functionality introduced into the
generic interrupt handling code. But that had the problem of not
reactivating interrupts e

unless you have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on the same Acer Aspire
5750-9668, and found that the PgUp works for you, or have some other
clear and convincing evidence, there is no reason why you should mark

xev is a command, pops up a window and prints all events that happen on
this window.

A non-working PgUp is a common result of an impedance mismatch between
the input driver and the configured xkb keycodes.
You should confirm that both are evdev or that you have keyboard and a
suitable keycodes for that.
Xorg.0.log will show which input driver is used. xkbcomp :0 - |grep keycod
