I found the blank screen is actually caused busy xorg process. And there
are huge number of error like below in kern.log. Add intel_iommu=off to

I've just booted into Kubuntu 12.04 where I haven't actually used

Like others who have commented, I am also affected by this bug, to save
juice I use rtcwake and have been careful to remove recordfail
altogether, however when I left my computer this Christmas something had
reverted and after two hibernates it was back to sitting on the GRUB
screen 200 kilometers
Temporary fix: in /etc/grub.d/00_header line 242 change the timeout from
-1 to any positive integer for a quick workaround.

I am having the same problem with a newly purchased ASUS U46e-bal6 which

12.04 has the same results. I installed xubuntu 12.04 It gives me more
display options and works fine. Did an upgrade to ubuntu 12.04 through
synaptic. Gnome and unity stiil dont work. I can log back into xubuntu.

i can second this - i have Thunar 1.2.3, xubuntu 11.10, AMD64, Inkscape
0.48.2 r9819
just hovering (no mouse click at all) over a 7 MegaByte .svg file
causes Thunar to lock while taking a whole CPU tread for about 50
seconds.
this does not happen with Nautilus, it does NOT happen for a 23 K file
