I've noticed this problem as well. It looks to me like the OTR plugin
isn't actually sending a signoff message to the peer when you end a
session. Haven't tracked down why just yet.

libverto seems to be an event loop abstraction API, so it doesn't appear
as unsuitable for main right away. Handing over to MIR team for more
fine-grained review as well.

As a developer using Unity 2D, this is an *EXTREMELY* annoying bug - it
