I gathered the information from my ThinkPad Edge E520 11433NG. It has
Core i5 integrated Intel graphics and a AMD Radeon HD 6630M. The Radeon
part seems to be muxless and thus vgaswitcheroo to DDIS freezes the

A workaround that has been working for me is to go to settings for
Power, and for the setting "When power is critically low" tell it to
shutdown rather than hibernate. It's not shutting down when I come back
from suspend so it seems to be fine.

Ah... Looks like it [I]is[/I] the ATI drivers...
I tried the Additional drivers, and was activating the ATI proprietary
FGLRX driver (post-release updates) when I changed my mind, and I had to
re-boot to stop it.
It came back looking fine, and when I looked, neither of the ATI FGLRX
drivers were

even a better workaround is setting "when lid closed" tell it to "do
nothing" or "blank screen"
This worked for me when unplugging the cable it only blanked the screen
or did nothing instead of hibernating.
Maybe there is a solution to be found in this context?

The good news: There is a workaround: Installing Windows Vista/2008/7 (Windows
XP/... does NOT work!), installing wlan driver + installing hotkey drivers,
then pushing FN+F2 button on keyboard, to enable WLAN. Luckily the hardware
remembers that the WLAN is switched even after reboots/power-off
