I was able to get an install to work. I think what made the difference
was flashing to the latest motherboard bios and changing the bios option
"UEFI Boot" to "Disabled."

I discovered recently that if Banshee is opened *before* my iPhone is
connected, it works and continues to work once the iPhone is plugged in
(even though the iPhone shows up in Banshee at that point as well).

I had the same experience; unity --reset also did not fix things.
Logging out and back in didn't either. I suspect perhaps a recent update
broke something, since a restart fixed things. Perhaps the next person
to experience this can try restarting gnome or X.

I'm seeing related problems. Unity, Java and firefox are all through
the roof in memory consumption. If left unconstrained, they will tear
through 3.6 GB in about 48 hours. Unity 2D is a little better.

I can confirm bug was fixed with the 2011-11-09 update from the
LibreOffice PPA: (1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1~ppa1), but I found the bug again
after updating from Oneiric main on 2011-11-22 (1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1).
Were the PPA fixes supposed to be included in main by now? or should I
have indicated to apt-get to

We shouldn't pull a prerelease version of tcpdump from experimental into
precise.
The upstream patch in question also does not apply cleanly to tcpdump
4.1.1 which we currently have, so more investigation is needed to see
whether this can be backported.
