No, did not solve. On one of my older (and upgraded to oneiric) machines
/var/lib/dpkg/available is about 4MB large and contains about 4428
packages.
On the other machine with a freshly installed oneiric it just is just
432KB large and contains 445 packages.

No statistics, unfortunately, but I think it's a Firefox related

I gave up the installation and went with a clean install of 11.10, which is
operating quite well.
My guess is that some educational suite (edubuntu?) I had installed was not
fully compatible.
Oh well, we may never know.

I got significant speed degradation in SQLite from Oneric distribution
(current version 3.7.7-2ubuntu2). I did several tests, and ot these

I launched the update manager and I installed all the updates, it said that I
had to do a partial distribution upgrade if I wanted to update everythig.
Pressed ok and restarted computer when finished amd got it working.
I also scribbled for 5-6 minutes in pencil mode and this bug
