OK guys, after many many test, I have been able to isolate the problem
to compiz-decorator, more specifically to unity-window-decorator, which
is the service responsible for drawing borders around windows and title-

With new byobu using tmux which only has one status line, it would be
nice if we could configure multiple status lines and switch between them
with a hot key. Perhaps have one status line for system monitor
I suspect that 51b418e70493b5780b9c21f7d21788f69bedf761 is involved in
fixing this. To my untutored eye, that is not obviously safe to
backport.
libchamplain builds fine with valac-0.14, so I'm going to switch over
its build-dependency. That's the default version of valac anyway.
