I haven't said it explicitly, but the problem goes away when you disable the
Ubuntu One plugin.
This is a good workaround for people who don't use Ubuntu One and want to play
music without network connectivity.

Additional info:
opening the terminal is annoying because even after using the Workspace
Switcher, it is still invisible.
Fro some reason, typing "killall nautilus" will make the terminal look
and work normally (at least until you close it). Unfortunately this
does not fix anything else.

More info (I typed too soon before)
I can now confirm that typing "killall nautilus" will fix all
application windows until a nautilus instance is loaded (eg opening the
home folder). This will cause all other windows to become invisible
again. However, retyping killall nautilus will fix again.

releases because it's based on number of other fixes which are likely

I predict that this bug will affect that next LTS too. The frame buffer
doesn't support my monitor's resolution either, as I tried this fix
manually already. And it's a common resolution (1920x1080). The release
after the next should have been the one to include plymouth. Not 10.04.

Actually, it's better in 10.04, because at least it shows the logo, even
if it's big and ugly. It screws up in all kinds of interesting ways in
10.10 and 11.04.

I upgraded my KDE installation from 11.04 to 11.10.
Now when I run "systemsettings", it freezes before anything is shown. The same
thing happens if I run "kate", although apps from my previous session are
started OK on KDE startup. Also "konsole" starts without problems.
