As a workaround, `sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/unity-greeter /usr/bin/` worked
for me. But requiring to do that on the command line to boot normally
after an update is not user friendly.

This is due to Unity & Unity2D implementing (the same) whitelist of tray
icons, viewable in the dconf entry: desktop/unity/panel/systray-
whitelist
To fix this add 'Skype' and 'JDownloader' to this list using dconf-
editor (part of "dconf-tools" package).
I've to find out if this is Unity/Unity2D
For Skype indicator, install 'sni-qt:i386', for other tray icons, use
'com.canonical.Unity.Panel.systray-whitelist' dconf entry, taking bug
847525 into account.

It is reproducible by simply initiating the "Window Picker for Windows
on Current Output" in the Scale Plugin, either by mouse or by key. It
does only seem to affect the picker for the current output, though.
"Initiate Window Picker" and "Initiate Window picker for All Windows"
seem to work fine.

So it sounds like there *is* a real bug in kde and XFCE. This is not in
fact a bug in upstart however, as it is doing exactly as each name
implies. Halting is an uncommon but real need for some systems where one
wants to specifically stop the kernel and everything, and then do a hard
reset without
darkredman, you might be facing bug 859405 though from the description
of your comment I am not sure if thats what you mean so wont be
reporting a new bug.

This network card problem (with 8111/8168 chipset) is present in Ubuntu
distributions since 10.x for me. However the recent kernel version 3.x
also crippled the installation of driver from Realtek site, but I found
a workaround on Linux Mint forums:

If this bug is Confirmed, why is it set to Low Importance and
Unassigned? Clearly Empathy is not working properly on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS,
regardless of whether this is a bug in Empathy or Google changed
something. This basically renders Empathy useless. Please fix.

on 1.8 version it has gtk3 support and easy to include with add
configure option "--with-gtk3" to enable GTK+
I think it would be nice allowing scrolling down and then right without raising
the fingers, and only preventing when scrolling diagonally or when the sideway
move is much shorter than the original scroll (aka, a wobble).
But if it is too hard to implement, simply disallowing a scroll in another

It does not rip, if scriptis started in a directory with no

On further investigation I think that the Unity-2D issue is not related
to this problem and that this problem applies equally to 2 and 3D.
I also realise that I am not seeing confirmation dialogs when I request
a logout. It simply logs out immediately.
I have three machines running 11.10 and two
Lazlo;
Stop network-manager (sudo stop network-manager); then edit the file
/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state to modify WirelessEnable to
set it to true; then start network-manager again (sudo start network-
manager).
