Problem solved on my RT2860 chip as well with the new 11.10 Beta. I can
confirm that power management is On when on battery power (according to
iwconfig) and that the connection doesn't loose performance or drops.
Driver is rt2800pci according to lsmod.

A workaround is to clone into a shared repository in which you have
already checked out lp:unity:
$ bzr init-repo unity
$ bzr branch lp:unity unity/trunk
