Some more random bits of data:
1) It doesn't matter which pointer type is in the theme (customised theme,
tried DMZ bloack and white and one of the red ones)
2) If I start an X server from the console (sudo Xorg &) and just start
metacity, the panel, xterm and then gedit then I can't recreate th
VGA monitor connected to the notebook performs vertical stripes, flickering and
unstable, blocking and restart the notebook. 10.10 Ubuntu worked perfectly.

I've installed gnome-specimen with synaptic and tryed execute.
How I saw the package wasn't working, I opened a terminal and tryed execute
