Same here, I'm running 11.04, on a Samsung N130.
Backlight flickers continuously on login (not login screen), until I
fudge the backlight hotkeys.
I tried adding "acpi_backlight=vendor" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT,
but no luck (although I'm running BURG), no luck.
The samsung-backlight package
I'm having the same problem in 10.04. There's absolutely nothing in the
logs though.

Happened to me with Firefox. Then both dash and launcher are drawn
beneath any window, but the buttons still work. You can't see them
though. Why is this low priority. It's damned annoying to have to
logout to get it to work right.

For what it's worth, I experienced this problem trying to set up a two-
way share with a Windows 7 machine. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 10.04. I
installed samba (via the Software Centre) and could see the machine in
Places>Network but all I could see when double clicking on the icon for
the machine
