I looked at the diff and this does seem to be the only unrelated/non-

I can confirm that the Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit desktop release continues to
exhibit this issue, and I have installer logs pinpointing exactly when
this happened. The installation was done on a MacBook Pro with a WDC
WD7500BPKT-75PK4T0 750 GB hard drive featuring Advanced Format 4096
blocks:
The bug is nowhere near solved. Just for testing I left a Natty 11.04
AMD64 machine untouched (not doing anything as a user) after booting and
compiz takes up to 2.5 GiB of memory. As I said, no extra programs were
started, no user action was taken, no effects were started either.

It's a bug, happens all the time. The wireless proxy reverts to log in
mode after about 10 minutes of activity. Update downloads stuff, but it
is just getting the login proxy sign-on screen. I have a workaround
with a perl script that repairs the damage.

Here is my wireless card (Broadcom corporation BCM4311 ). I tried
installing it using synaptic package manager and rebooted but it still
doesn't work. My friend with the same laptop model also experiences the

My impression is that gpointing-device-settings is simply a graphical
frontend to the xinput command. Given that it's not part of the default
install, I can't see that it has it's own critical function. The code
certainly looks like a frontend, given a cursory look.

Thank you--it worked like a charm. In fact, I don't think the upgrade is
necessary. Once I deleted everything and then ran update, the update-
manager appeared and looked functional.
It's strange--I had tried the same thing with just the offending list,
which in my case was
us.archive.ub

I personally think the problem lies in some cached data on the usb
install media. That is the only common thing between reinstalls that
include formattign the hd.
