I can still confirm this issue in Natty, after installing the latest
nvidia driver, ubuntu would log into gnome 2d. Apparently xorg.conf
wasn't changed so nvidia-settings recommended running "nvidia-xconfig".
Afterwards, I couldn't start X again (no login screen etc).

Hard-coded crashkernel=... memory reservation in /etc/gr
I wonder if this bug is going to be fixed soon. It is a bit inconvinient
not to be able to suspend/resume on a laptop.

@Matthew Paul Thomas thanks for taking care of my original bug report by
transferring it here. I do agree that my bug is linked to the broader
issue that it should be clear, which application is active. This is very
important since otherwise you just can't tell, to which application the
global menu

I'm not seeing any particular reason for it while diffing the debug
output, but 'grub-probe --target=device /' (say) does seem to have
roughly halved in performance for me. (I'm on an SSD so a difference in
the magnitude of slowdown is to be expected.)

Ubuntu-11.04 unity was a complete re-write. If you face this problem in
