Actually the problem has become worse for me in Natty, as
the trackpad which worked under in Maverick (at least scrolling did and
pasting using simultaneously clicking both mouse buttons),
while it doesn't anymore in Natty.
I also have an ALPS trackpad and it is also detected as

I've also seen this a couple times. Much like the Spanish Inquisition, I
never expect it. I can't reproduce when it happens, but I have found

and /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings enabled: the
screen appears to get locked only after the screensaver kicks in, not
when closing the lid.
I have set the lid action to "Blank screen" in gnome-power-pref
And the original site has restored, so the bug can be closed.

Having observed this for a while now, it seems to only affect windows
that are snapped to the extreme right of the workspace grid, i.e.
workspaces top-right and bottom-right in a 2x2 grid. Following on from
the last paragraph of my comment above, I'm guessing that the space
taken up by the launcher

Wow, thanks Demian! The fix worked for me. Only problem was Ubuntu
Software Center warned me the .deb package was of "inferior quality."
But when I clicked on "details" the only reason given was there was "no

I wanted to report in that I attempted to test mainline but was unable.
I tried using the 2.6.38.6 debs from the kernel ppa:

unfortunately when I use these the kernel crashes during boot with a
message about plymouthd.
