the culprit: commenting out its instantiation in launcher.cpp, I manage
to get the launcher to run.
That doesn’t get us rid of the X errors, but that’s likely a separate

For me this happens only when using (fresh) 11.04 alpha/beta releases.
No problems on 10.10 or earlier Ubuntu's or other Linux distributions.
It's an audible problem: some flac files have small crackling or

dependency hell between the two, IIRC
going from 0.88 to 0.90 and got errors on the install/
so remove USR and then things may have installed. I've not tried running it
yet...
