@hallboy: the kernel changes you list refer to the open-source driver. A
new version of Catalyst is needed (and will be released next week).

I can't reproduce the issue any more. Looks like the problem is solved
somehow.
Note: When I reported the issue I was on generic kernel while in the
meantime I am on pae since the laptop in question has 4 GB memory which
was not fully available without PAE.

Confirmed that doing
kvm -drive file=lucid.img,cache=unsafe,index=0,boot=on -m 512M -smp 2 -vnc :1
-monitor stdio
and doing 'savevm savevm5'
takes about 2 seconds.
So, for fast savevm, 'cache=unsafe' is the workaround. Shoudl this bug
then be marked invalid, or 'wontfix'?

Sebastien,
We tried to figure this out with Bryce, and was determined that this is
not related to the driver side as this bug is not seen when disabling
LVDS with xrandr, but rather when disabling LVDS with gnome-display-
properties.

No, it seems the updates that I installed last night corrected the
problem. Let me know if more information is needed.

So, moving dbus-c++ back to be bundled seems like a sleight of hand.
The problem here is that we have an unmaintained chunk of code in main.
It seems bad to approve it just because it happened to be there before
and we just didn't know it was unmaintained.
Could ubuntu-audio maintain it in Ubuntu?
For the mobile problem I have filed a new bug - see Bug #742596 as it
happened again for mobile.
