I think the right fix here is to respect the system wide proxy settings
(that is fixed in natty now). I don't really see a use-case where that
is not sufficient?

I forgot update-manager updated the kernel and was waiting for reboot, and
hibernated.
Hibernating completed successfully but didn't resume (instead performed a
regular boot).
This can cause unsaved data to be lost.

@Ernest, yes, that's how I, too, like it. It's extremely useful to have
so much border estate. I used to have such a setup a decade ago when I
was still using windows, but unfortunately haven't been able to use such
a setup yet after switching to linux.
