@Carsten - thanks for pointing this out - I was not aware that only the
preferred alternative had to be in main.
I think that there is sufficient detail in this bug to generate the
required patch; however as it is an update to Lucid it will have to go
through the Stable Release Update process

OK I think I found the issue. The problem was not on the vinagre side
but on the vnc server. I use x11vnc and I added the -xkb flag to it.
rfkrocktk can you test it yourself? This is my setup:

This should not impact natty (2.0.1) but should impact lucid and
maverick which both ship version 1.2.

Hello Serge,
I can confirm that adding a SDL graphics device in the VM configuration
and removing the vnc device I was able to hear the sound.
So if virt-manager disables sound in its VNC device due to security
issues and SDL only works locally, then there is currently no support
for remote sound
