I agree that there is not enough information in order to debug this
issue. However I think the freezing issues you described are not related
to the the ntop package.
Ntop 3.3 is quite old. The latest upstream version (4.0.3) is currently
packaged for maverick or in my PPA for older Ubuntu ve

When I type 'lsusb -v' in a terminal, the OS crashes. It shows several lines
but it hangs forever in this device:
