So, I installed gnome-settings-daemon and ran it, and the problem
persisted. Furthermore, I have another i386 Natty system that runs a
full Ubuntu desktop. On that other system, users-admin works without
problems, and gnome-settings-daemon is installed and runs all the time.

Confirming; I just noticed this while in the train and trying to
comprehend why using the name from the menu didn't work in iwconfig.
Note however, NM still does the right thing since the name is just
something to display (and only in the menu, not in other places it might
show).
It seems this is

Wishlist. I agree it's not the easiest right now to deal with DSL over
wifi with NM.

Same issue with Maverick (i386 system), except that removing OpenJDK did
not help, even after a system restart. I'm running Sun Java 6 and it's
still painfully slow. I can't find the Freecol startup script to edit
it as per comment 8 in

Looked at this a bit after the IRC discussion. It seems like the python C api
on ubuntu sets sys.path[0] not to an empty string but to "/usr/lib/python2.6"
which is sys.path[1] usually and scribus overwrites sys.path[0] with it's own
include path when the scriptengine is initialized.
Could be so
fgets and js_fgets really aren't interchangeable. js_fgets is more
similar to readline, although the API is still different. I'm pretty
sure this is what is causing this bug anyway, and it should be an easy
fix

UPDATE.
Well, I booted the system several times and changed the res too and all
went well. So I got fat and sassy. I decided to add 200+ MB of updates.
Oh, yeah. I am new to Linux but I am thinking that maybe the new kernel

I was attempting to install a driver in my Compaq Presario C700 to get the fax
modem working, Ubuntu updated, then the sound stopped working. If I boot to a
previous version in grub, sound works fine. Fax still not working. What went
wrong?
