Same problem here, seems quite random.
Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, Kernel 2.6.32-26-generic, Nvidia GeForce 9600GT with

overloaded with different applications and tvtime is minimized, I restore
tvtime window but its black (although sound is playing ok continuously), and

I'm experiencing this with Totem because it would play any files after a
while of Totem use. All players dies, yes vlc too. For some reason
smplayer works and Banshee sometimes hangs.

Confirming this error in Ubuntu 10.10 as well, as it happened to me last
night during reinstallation/moving from 10.04 to 10.10. This is a
critical error to me and caused the loss of 150 gigs in my user home
directories. Luckily there are (somewhat dated) backups.

Thanks David. Sorry for the diff, it was my first packaging related patch, and
I did not know how to proceed. With mentoring, I have found it out, it won't

Hi Fabio,
yes, netbook was booted up running plugged in. As soon as I unplugged
the power cable, it went to battery power and lost the wireless
connection. Plugging the cable back in did not restore the wireless
connection - I had to restart (plugged in) to get the connection back.

Removal of /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so worked for me as a
workaround. Interestingly this does not happen on my likewise 64-bit
Ubuntu 10.10 laptop, likewise with Pidgin 2.7.5, only the desktop. Also,
it did not happen for Pidgin 2.7.3 on either machine.

I had this issue yesterday with my Technotrend Budget DVB-S card (ST
STV0299 DVB-S) after discovering the gnome-dvb package. I recall
encountered a similar it before when using other dbv tools (dvbstream).
The trick is to run a quick scan to wake the card up (I would assume),
then gnome-dvb-setup
