The crash from the last comment I think belongs to a separate computer-
janitor bug. The root cause might be the same, but all applications
should handle extreme situations, they should not display tracebacks,
but user-friendly error messages with some concise pointers to some
solution for the prob

I think I'm experiencing this bug too. In the past few weeks, I've
installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop on brand new self-built machines.
One of the first things I did to each was to activate the Nvidia driver,
once I rebooted, themes no longer seem to be applied, the UI looked like
9.04.

I have a very similar device (Philips GoGear Raga 4GB) but the model
number is SA2RGA04K/97. Running lsusb lists the device as 0471:20b4.
Using the mpi file as above but changing the model number and device id
worked fine.
