Similar issue same. Asus EEE PC 1201N, Ubuntu 10.10 installed, fully
updated. The latest version of the BIOS 0326.
After append to kernel parameters "acpi_osi = Linux acpi_brightness =
vendor" the number of resseting bios greatly reduced, but sometimes it

I can confirm I have this exact same problem. I have an Nvidia 9800GT
512MB. When I install the proprietary driver, I restart. Before it gets
to the Ubuntu loading screen the screen goes completely black!

Likely this is a result of 64-bit problems in the X server for tightvnc-1.3.9.
If you can grab / build 1.3.10 source from sourceforge project, it may clear
that up. Or, possibly grab 1.3.9 source package and try to apply patch

No, not really. They did have a "pro" version yes, but they don't have a
distribution network.
What i am suggesting is the business model that Microsoft has. Copy that

@angandrob: As far as I know this bug cannot be fixed until NVidia
releases xorg 1.9 compatible binary driver. And NVidia has told via its
forum that they will release nvidia-96 driver for xorg 1.9, but it is
low priority issue for them. So all we can do now is sit back, relax and
enjoy our nv/vesa

Recently I found out, when I boot with headphones plugged in, the headphones
have sound and speakers not (this is OK), but when I then unplug the
headphones, then there is no sound from speakers at all. When I plug the
headphones back in, then they are working fine.
