The latest pcsc-lite 1.6.x do not use a fifo anymore. So the patch would
only be for the 1.5.x branch.
If I can't reproduce/understand the bug myself I will not apply the patch, even
if it works for you.

I'm unable to reproduce the problem in a VM (no ssd) where the upgrade runs in
less than 1 hour, so this could be related to the hardware.
Could you please attach the output of dmesg just after the boot of your system
to this report.

work. been uninstalling, installing, seem to be unable to start over,
somehow it can't connect to database. May just reinstall ubuntu to start

information when going from package to package, and stops at the first
failing build; I agree a summary line on the console of what was built
and what was the last module would help a bit
