No, on the first page there are three columns. One columns displays fine
(as does the whole of the second page) but in the second two, only the
little red "choices" render. The rest of the page does not print
(although on print preview it is shown in miniature in the corner of the
page).

@Thijs, can you clarify? Why do you put a pair of headphones into line-
in? Are you saying you put a headset's mic into the mic in jack?
Also, according to your BIOS, this is what you have, which does not
include a line in. Can you verify it's correct?

would appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be
corrupt. There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO
