Now it is working. I'm not sure what fixed it, but here are a few
factors:
I set:
LC_ALL=en_US.UTF8
I put the international keyboard as the default keyboard.
I installed qt-ibus support, and set ibus input method to none (not
xim).
My bet is that the LC_ALL=en_US.UTF8 would have been sufficien

Looks like the latest version of the patch was not applied (libvirt
maintainers applied a modified patch to upstream that fixed a couple
more memory leaks.
This version does work, but I know others still had some lingering
problems that I couldn't reproduce.

Changed the status of the bug again: The last update did fix the icon,
but not the crash. The message still reads:
Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-power-manager' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)'.

I have just marked #599915 as a duplicate of this one. For Lucid, the
status should be rather incomplete as of udisks version 1.0.1-1ubuntu1,
reverting to udisks 1.0.1-1build1 eliminates the regression.

One more go: Brasero works perfectly in my current Lucid install. If
anyone can suggest (or rather advise me in detail) how I can produce any
pertinent output I'll be very glad to post it here. Otherwise I'll bid

Confirmed since I'm also seeing this (in my case on firefox
3.6.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2 - and a lot of other programmes).
Note I do not have appmenu-gtk installed - it was installed but I apt-get
removed it.
Ah - I think I might see what's happening here.
