brightness_in_hardware (reminiscent of HAL), for setting whether or not
to use xrandr for stepping the brightness up/down. Please test my patch

With nvidia driver version 256.35 I experienced some problems with the
default user interface. I run into this both with Lucid (drivers
upgraded from xorg edgers packages, rollback fixes the problem) and
