I also was affected by this bug on two machines. As a workaround I altered the
file /etc/init/kdm.conf and inserted a
"sleep 1" before the "exec kdm" line. Since two weeks I don't have problems any
more.

Hi, I upgraded to new kernel 2.6.32-23 and after that, the PC cannot be
switched-off, it just hangs in the terminal and only ctrl+alt+del is the
solution. In 2.6.32-22 the problem is solved.

I am having the same problem, DVD/CD doesn't shows up in Nautlius. It's
after some update that I am having this problem. I never believed on
updates till my brother forced me to go for updates. I can say that I
was right and ubuntu updates are always buggy. They kill my alsa and
every update brings
If possible suggest me a fix and from where to download it. My system is
up to date till date.

On Lucid, they've broken my workaround, RTL-8169, so now I have NO OPTIONS
but to go back to 9.10 and use the RTL-8169 since the VIA is still utterly
broken with all versions.

i see, so it is software problem, nothing hardware. can u recount
how do u get to this stage of getting the software to work again?
(did u do anything, or just simply reboot your machine?)
many bug report is linked to resuming from suspend, and the sound
driver somehow cannot suspend and resume
I have also had this bug at upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, amd64.
Since I made an image before upgrade, I just reversed it.
Processes ate up all my PC's resources until swap was full. See attached
screenshot.
This took place at 1st July via internet upgrade (GUI).
I will retry upgrade when the bug

But look likes the new kernel update (2.6.32-23, or some update that came at
the same time, like the gnome one) fixed it.
I've noticed that I'm working for hours without activating it.
And when the screensaver goes off, boinc stop the process too.

I have changed from an ATI Radeon 9250 AGP(Asus) to a Nvidia(Club 3D) 6200 AGP
256MB.
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 on this same PC.
I also installed all the updates.
I'm using at the moment the Nvidia binary drivers from the repos, installed
through Jockey(nvidia-curre

I suggest you try debugging with the vanilla OpenOffice at
OpenOffice.org, it should pop up letting you report a bug with more
debugging info if it crashes.

I have the same bug as Twbecker ( comment #31 ). It can be solved by touching
the file ~/.gnome2/evince/last_settings as he mentions, and after doing that I
have equivalent warnings as his. I can solve the warnings related to *.xbel*
files by just removing them.

I've tried fb=false and different vga modes as boot parameter. Nothing
worked.
