I have the same problem running KDE (Kubuntu 10.04). It is intermittent.
I can operate for hours without a crash, then it can happen 10 minutes
after startup. The last crash was when I was using the Okular viewer.
I cannot start KDE from the command prompt, but I can log in.

OK, I booted cold this morning (I have seen a couple of articles on this
issue suggesting that it may be more common when the machine is cold)

Take in consideration that if you have an SSD, it will be much slower
with this workaround cause we're using ata_generic module kernel than
with AHCI
With ata_generic, the controller can't go to NCQ so if you have a
good SSD, it will suffer performance degradation.

My last experience with this bug was after installing Ubuntu 10.4. It
was far worse than on 9.10+alsa-backports-modules. Since I couldn't use
my computer that way, I'm using a Creative X-Fi instead, which works
perfectly. I will test Ubuntu 10.10 as soon as I have time and report
the results.

I used the pam tweak described in post 27 (configuring pam to accept no
password from certain users). All users of my machine are local, using
gdm. I'm on debian sid with libpam-gnome-keyring 2.30.1-2 and gnome-
keyring 2.30.1-2.
P.S. firesock, et al: downgrading is not a solution but a temporary
hmm, I just created a package from the branch kklimonda proposed for
merging, so Martin, where can I see that unclean diff?

original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but upstream
has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the original
reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that quite

bug? There has been a security upgrade since you made the fix available
in your ppa, so we're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place...

We tried to reproduce there on a French system to reply to a name with an
umlaut and we don't get this issue.
Do you know exactly when it broke, was it working before last update?
