under Virtualbox works fine.
The only noticeable difference (other than one system is real and the
other virtualized) betwees the twos, is that the faulty one is 64 bits.

I chose the default because the last time I didn't it screwed up so bad
I had to restore from backup. That was under the upgrade from Karmic to
Lucid. That was a severe problem!

Ever since I tried Ubuntu for a while now, whether Jaunty, Karmic, or
Lucid, I always had issues with my Laptop battery status.
The Laptop is an LG R700.
The status is always off. Sometimes is shows correctly, and sometimes it
