With the unaltered settings the after the upgrade, amarok was configured
to prefer alsa over pulseaudio.

It's got to be said that is a very long filename - but it doesn't seem to be

nope, both Maverick and Lucid are following the stable channel.
The fix is only in trunk and in the dev channel (both M6). Hence, it's not
fixed in the beta and stable channels (both M5)
I guess i can try to backport the fix in maverick, but i'm not sure it
will qualify for a SRU in lucid-updates
I guess I am now the number 30 user who has this problem. I posted

I think I made a mistake, this is suited to gnome panel or ubuntu
desktop bugs. Will test now if turning off applications of startup
session helps.

I dont either know where to start for debugging :) One thing here
empathy should do is that it should not allow the creation of same
account at all. meaning it should restrict showing twice the same
account. I have opened an upstream bug for this but in an altered form.
Please subscribe yourself to
osmo package from Debian builds fine, so change to CFLAGS does not seems to be
required anymore.
Can you investigate what is the sense of the other change? It seems to be also
a FTBFS fix, so it won't be required anymore.

As this bug effects more people, I don't think marking it as invalid was
