Well I tried with an ipod shuffle and I ran into the same issue - ipod
would not be recognized. I remember being able to use this ipod on
ubuntu some years ago (2006?).
I came to this post after searching and removed libgpod-common and

the source packages; this creates a build-dep on the same source
package, so it means two builds to create cross-compilers from new gcc-
ish sources (one native and one with debian/target set), just to get the

1) I edited /etc/grub/default and commented-out the line

I have another crash currently and the clock shows another part of the gnome
panel instead of the time.
Specifically it shows the date "Sun Jun 13," but truncated because the clock is
smaller so it only shows "Jun 13, " and a couple of dots on each side. (see
attachment)

Why has this been set to "won't fix" so fast? The ongoing discussion
about this issue clearly shows that different people have different

This is affecting me in Lucid Lynx with RT kernel. It is very
frustrating because if I am trying to watch a film it cuts out every now
and then and I have to restart the movie player.

On upgrade to Lucid, grub2 was NOT installed for me; not sure if it
should have been.
Therefore, I am still experiencing this bug in Lucid. I resolved it by
backing up my menu.lst (renaming it to menu.lst.backup), and then
running update-grub. New menu.lst had correct entries. (If you copy
menu.ls

In Ubuntu select System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager.
Using "Quick Search" find "ubuntu-restricted-extras" and select for
installation choosing to install all the recommended packages.
