Same problem here with Lucid all updates applied. If I start Kile
normally, it is responsive. But switching the virtual desktop and back
again, it gets really slow. Using

2.6.32-22.33 kernel taken from the launchpad build that got pushed to
proposed is fine so it is something between .33 and .35 that broke

I can also confirm the above, if gwibber is invoked with sudo, it starts
up seemingly fine (despite errors).
Strangely enough, it does not when using gksu, in which case this error
is seen:

Same for me, IBM T60p Thinkpad
ATI Mobility FireGL 5250 (M56GL)
Acer AL1916 external monitor.
Boots to dual-screen and the external monitor is fuzzy. Then when I open
the "Monitor Preferences" panel all displays freeze. Only fix is to
hard-reset and then enable 'fglrx' instead of open source video

This is not a global issue as was first assumed. The template sidebar
does behave correctly by allowing space for each section. The bug
listing constructs a sidebar using ajax and it misbehaves.
