Same on my Dell Vostro 1710. After resume from suspend, if I unplug the
power cord it gives me a critical battery warning even at 90% power.
Fortunately it doesn't actually hibernate for me (just displays the

I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and burnt it to a CD today. After
installing it, I used it for an hour after which the PC goes into a
stage where it shows that "Battery is OK" and some other things are
writte. Its a PC, not a laptop!
Can you hear yourself in the audio wizard?
Is the server you are trying to connect to reachable and using a
matching version?

one.

What appears to have worked for me is to start with "radeon.modeset=0".
This disables KMS. Run sudo gedit /etc/default/grub and add it after
quiet splash. (so make it "quiet splash radeon.modeset=0"). Then run
sudo update-grub.
