Hello. I investigated this issue. I found a issue with the font. Inside
the ttf file, there are two 'u' -one on top of the other, copied-. I
don't understand why GIMP shows it correctly, however. The attachment
fixes this problem.
The font file shouldn't have two paths copied for the 'u' glyph but

I booted up in XP Professional, and had sound (the Windows log-on sound, and
the music player).

As the Lucid release is now very close, I'll wait till its GA, upgrade, and try
to make the kernel BUG happen again.
