I see exactly this bug on updated Karmic. No USB keyboards, nothing.
Simple Dell Latitude D420 laptop with two keyboard layouts, hibernate,
then resume and it starts to act as if there're three layouts: my two
Eng and Rus plus "???". Changing anything in gnome-keyboard-properties
fixes the problem
Is there a way to revert back to the original configuration? I spend
about 75% of my day working in "full screen" applications on various
virtual desktops (usually vmware), and after upgrading to 9.10 noticed
that I was missing a lot of important IM notifications. Is there a way

OK, this seems to be fixed on my system.
There was no update since yesterday of this theme (package version 0.1.6.3),
but after seeing that the button layout (close, minimize, maximize) did not
change after upgrading the package (and version 0.1.6.3 as far as I understand
was released mainly to

2. This bug is fixed by blacklisting the viafb module. Since
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf is owned by module-init-tools, I'm

For what it's worth, I just uninstalled the vbetool package. It also
asked to uninstall the related package acpi-support. I let it. I've had
no problem since. Suspend works perfectly, no acpi problems (frequency
scaling, etc). Don't know why this package is enabled by default, but I

I have an ATI HD5750. My current working system failed the first reboot after
yesterdays update.
The current Xorg.0.log is 0 bytes in size, thus I attached Xorg.0.log.old.
Lucid 10.04 2.6.32.19 appears on grub. I was able to boot using recovery mode.

this is most likely a hardware issue. Unfortunately if my experience

This is also happening to me when I first log on. I'm attaching an image
of the top right of my screen, after logging on to my Dell 10v netbook.
I'm running the standard Gnome version of Karmic, not a netbook remix.

Btw, when moving from -fglrx -> -ati, be careful as if you manually
uninstall stuff it can leave your system in a funky state.

As someone noted above, I've also observed that removing and re-adding
the notification area will generally restore the proper icons.
I notice that this has been seen in both Karmic and Lucid, by various
people.
