I would just like to add that this is Gnome Specific. I installed Kde4
and Xfce4 and logged into both desktops from Gdm with touchpad working
fine. I also tried with Kdm (to check for Gdm/Gnome related), still ok.
So something Xorg/Gnome related isn't working right.

I clicked "forward" on the install dialog-window asking me to close all
open-office apps.
I closed them, but I missed one on another desktop - the installer tried to

With the latest kernel the system does not show the desktop when booting with

Relatively good news: testing with the 2010-03-04 LiveCD i386 Ubuntu
image, after hitting bug #532530 "Segmentation fault at address (nil)"
at the first log-in, and after stopping/restarting GDM, a Gnome session
is started at 800x600. This doesn't scale to fill the 1024x768 screen

some reason the same policy was not applied in Ubuntu... (Alongside some
Hebrew and RTL specific apps that shipped with the Hebrew version of

Did you check that all of the Debian RC bugs are fixed? I just checked
#527220 and verified that crm_master is both in hardy's to jaunty's
heartbeat as well as lucid's pacemaker, without declaring a
conflicts/replaces, so this bug seems relevant for Ubuntu as well.

Problem confirmed upstream, and I can't find that patch in the
lp:ubuntu/gparted branch, so might be good to include it (or maybe bring
GParted 0.5.2 in Lucid, but it's probably too late for that?).

Ok, after looking around some more, I find that `gst-launch v4l2src !
ffmpegcolorspace ! xvimagesink` doesn't work because the video chipset
and/or driver doesn't support xvideo.
